About Under The Light

Under The Light Yoga School (UTL) was established in 2006 in Yoyogi, Tokyo as a yoga specific school to learn and practice yogic methods passed down from ancient times to the present day, with No.1 numbers of Yoga Alliance registered teacher graduates.

Class will be conducted mainly in Japanese,
but English communication is available.

Sivananda yoga:A well balanced traditional yoga class with pranayama, 12 basic poses, meditation, and chanting.
Hatha for meditation:A class to prepare the body and mind towards meditation.

・From Narita Airport, ride the Narita Express for 74 minutes to Shinjuku Station or take the Limousine Bus for approx. 120 minutes to Busta Shinjuku
・From Haneda Airport, take the Limousine Bus for approx. 70 minutes to Busta Shinjuku


Q. Are class instructions given in Japanese?

A. The classes introduced on this page will be conducted mainly in Japanese but the teachers can speak English.
*Kranti’s class is held mainly in English

Q. How many minutes before class should I get there?

A. Please come 15 minutes before class begins so that you have time to change clothes.

Q.What do I need to bring with me to class?

A. Please bring comfortable clothing to move in, and a towel.  You will be barefoot in class.

  Although limited in number, we also have rental yoga wear (charge¥1000)

Q. Do you sell water and other beverages?

A. No

Q. Is it okay to eat before joining a class?

A. Yoga asana will affect the digestive system.  Please try to finish eating by 2 hours before class.

Q. Is it okay to participate while on my period?

  It is best to get rest without physical exertion including yoga during menstruation.

  We recommend not participating when on your period.

Q. Are there showers available?

A. No

If you prefer to freshen up after yoga, you could get a taste of Japanese culture at Sentos, the public baths.
